Dr. Marc Cooper has a wealth of experience to draw on as an Elder. His professional career includes academician, medical researcher, teacher, trainer, board director, inventor and entrepreneur. He has authored six books and writes a weekly newsletter with subscribers in more than 30 countries.

Marc is no stranger to major transitions and lifelong learning. After obtaining degrees in dentistry, periodontics and immunology and owning a dental practice for 14 years, he changed careers to become a consultant and coach. In 1984, drawing on his studies in various disciplines and his work as an independent contractor with several top consulting companies, he founded The Mastery Company to serve the healthcare and medical industries. He has since worked with large hospital systems, Silicon Valley start-ups, Fortune 500s and innumerable solo private practices to transform their businesses. Dr. Cooper has active clients in the US, Canada, Europe and the United Arab Emirates.

For the past decade, Marc’s commitment to helping people live their lives with mastery and purpose—at any age—has led him to explore ‘eldering.’ He has facilitated engagements with hospice centers in major hospitals, trained with Rabbi Zalman Schacter-Shalomi (Aging to Sage-ing), and been involved with Elders of the Taos Pueblo in northern New Mexico.

James (Jim) Selman has been involved in the field of personal and organizational transformation since 1975. His interest in aging began in 1980 when, as the youngest member of the California Commission on Aging, he asserted that most of our attitudes and experience of aging are based on ‘cultural stories.’ When we change our story, we can transform how we relate to the future and how we experience age. In 1981, he founded Growing Older, Inc., a not-for-profit organization with a mission to ensure that the last day of life holds as much possibility as the first.

In the past five years, he has come to appreciate that age is one of the most fundamental factors affecting how we experience our day-to-day lives, the possibilities we have and how we relate to ourselves, our circumstances and other people.

As an Elder, Jim is widely recognized as a pioneer and innovative leader in bringing about culture change in corporations and communities in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe.

Jim continues to demonstrate his wisdom in action by working with clients through his company Paracomm Partners International, mentoring aspiring young leaders, and sharing his wisdom and perspective—the gifts of his age—with consultants and organizations committed to making the world work for everyone.
